    An examination of development from conception, infancy, preschool years, to childhood with emphasis in the areas of physical, cognitive, social, and personality development, including exploration of attachment, developmental, and behavioral disorders.

    1-4 Credit Hours
    A supervised practicum individual literacy assessment/instruction within a small group setting.

  • READ 5550 - Practicum II

    1-6 Credit Hours
    Students will work in the University Reading Clinic in a supervisory capacity. Specific responsibilities include supervising a group of tutors in the interpretation of test results, preparing prescriptive programs and evaluating performance of tutors and effectiveness of instruction.

    This course will focus on learning the fundamental concepts of astronomy through inquiry. Inquiries will include observational astronomy and the analysis of astronomical data sets.

    This course will focus on recent trends and issues in science education, including teaching methods, assessment, and state standards, and the Next Generation of Science Standards, and how these issues affect science teaching and learning in K-12 schools.

    This is the first portion of a two-course capstone sequence that provides graduate students in the M.Ed. in Science Education program a culminating academic experience that integrates and goes beyond the program’s required coursework.  Options for the capstone experience are described in the program description.  In this first course in the capstone sequence, students will begin their approved projects and submit documentation of adequate progress to their instructor. 
    Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor and advisor and completion of at least 26 semester hours of the coursework requirements of the M.Ed. in Science Education program.
  
  • SCI 5993 - Capstone II

    3 Credit Hours
    This is the second portion of a two-course capstone sequence that provides graduate students in the M.Ed. in Science Education program a culminating academic experience that integrates and goes beyond the program’s required coursework.   Options for the capstone experience are described in program description.  In this second course in the capstone sequence, students will complete their projects and submit their documentation to their capstone readers for final approval.

    Current social issues affecting Native American peoples are linked to their unique Constitutional relationship to the U.S. Federal Government. Using the ethno-historic method, this class links current Indian issues to Native American history, through an examination of Indian-white relations since Colonial times.     Provides informaion pertaining to assistive technology strategies and alternative/augmentative communication systems that are useful for the academic and social progress of students with disabilities, especially students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).  A synopsis of the characteristics, identification, history, causes, interventions, and current issues regarding students with Autism Spectrum Disorders will be reviewed.
    Prerequisite: 2.75 GPA or higher and successful completion (grade C or better) in EDUC 3113 and EDUC 3313.
  
  • SPED 5203 - Evidence-Based Strategies & Curriculum Design for Students with ASD

    Teacher candidates will gain knowledge and implement evidence-based academic, behavioral, functional, and social strategies effective for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.  Teacher candidates will learn to design curriculum based off the individual needs of students, state standards, and appropriate placement options.  Teachers will create and implement Individualized Education Plans for students with ASD.
  
  • SPED 5303 - Positive Behavioral Supports for Students with ASD

    3 Credit Hours
    Teacher candidates will utilize Applied Behavior Analysis and other evidence-based behavioral analyses to collect efficient data on behaviors of students with ASD and students with other disabilities to develop Functional Behavioral Assessment and Positive Behavioral Intervention Plans.  Teachers will also learn how to implement a school-wide Positive Behavioral System.
  
  • SPED 5323 - Response to Intervention and Assessment of Students with ASD

    Teacher candidates will understand the identification and psychological evaluation procedures required for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other disabilities to become eligible for special education services.  Teacher candidates will also learn about the Response to Intervention process necessary for effective evaluations.

    World Drama is a survey course that covers the history of dramatic literature from the Golden Age of Greece to the present,  Included are the historical as well as phenomenological approaches to critical thinking about the literary, production and practical aspects of the theatre event.  Students will develop critical skills through written and oral presentations.
