PHYS 5123 - Mathematical Methods for Physics and Chemistry


Description: An advanced mathematical methods course designed for physicists and chemists.  The emphasis is on the analytical methods and their computational implementation by symbolic calculations software, such as Mathematica.  Basic numerical methods are presented with the emphasis on the ways to evaluate their accuracy and effectiveness.  Topics include vector analysis, linear algebra, group theory, functions of complex variables, ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, special functions, integral transforms, Fourier series, calculus of variations, and probabilities.
