Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs (Alphabetical)

Minimum grade requirement for Spanish Education: Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in courses to be used for either major or minor credit.  Grades lower than a “C” in NSU or transfer courses will not apply for major or minor credit.

Students in the Spanish B.A.Ed. degree program must participate in and complete the ACTFL/NCATE assessment in order to graduate. The plan includes baseline and midterm evaluations of speaking and writing proficiency and also various assessments to meet NCATE mandates. These requirements are in addition to the assessment requirements of the College of Education.  Please see the Spanish faculty for a complete description of the plan’s requirements.

As part of these assessment requirements, students in the Spanish B.A.Ed. degree program must complete an Official ACTFL OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) exam before they will be allowed to begin their full internship. Students are expected to demonstrate an ACTFL proficiency rating of Advanced-Low on the OPI.  There is a fee associated with the OPI and the OPI is currently administered by an outside agency. Please see the Spanish faculty for more information.

General Education Requirements

A minimum of 49 hours of academic work in general education is required during the freshman and sophomore years.  For students transferring with the Associate of Arts degree or Associate of Science degree from a public institution in Oklahoma, all general education requirements will be satisfied with respect to degree requirements.  However, some majors may require other specific general education courses as program prerequisites or program requirements.  Students should consult advisors and the program’s plan of study for further information.  Students are required to complete general education requirements by the time they have completed 90 semester hours of college work.  See General Education Requirements for Bachelor’s Degrees  for more information.
