Business Administration General Information 

The Hospitality and Tourism Management program offers a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and provides students with the knowledge necessary for success in enterprises related to the meetings, travel, gaming and hospitality industries. The Hospitality and Tourism Management program is approved by the Professional Convention Management Association.

The program consists of three distinct but interrelated components: meeting and convention management, tourist destination development, and gaming. Students may select one option or elect to complete two or three areas.

The meeting and convention management program emphasizes managing and serving meetings, conventions, trade shows, and special events. The student who specializes in tourist destination development studies the development, management and marketing of tourist attractions and destinations. The gaming emphasis specializes in managing casinos and gaming operations.

The following policies of the College of Business and Technology apply to the Hospitality and Tourism Management Major: Entrance Requirements, Minimum Grade Requirements, Experiential Credit Limitation, Transfer Credit Limitation, English Proficiency, Upper Division Credit, Liberal Arts and Sciences and Residency.

Note


*Any 18 hours of coursework in the Hospitality and Tourism Management major will constitute a minor.

Policies of the College of Business and Technology


The following policies of the College of Business and Technology apply: Entrance Requirements, Minimum Grade Requirements, Experiential Credit Limitation, Transfer Credit Limitation, English Proficiency, Upper Division Credit, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Residency.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY: English proficiency is a graduation requirement. Components I and II of English proficiency should be met with grades of “C” or better prior to the completion of 60 credit hours.
UPPER DIVISION CREDIT: Total hours must include at least 40 hours of credit in courses numbered 3000 and above.
LIBERAL ARTS & SCIENCES: At least 40 semester credit hours are required in the Liberal Arts and Sciences for the BBA and BT degrees and 55 semester credit hours in the Liberal Arts and Sciences for BS degrees.  Liberal Arts and Science courses are designated with a “#” after the course title.
RESIDENCY: At least 18 hours or one-half of the major, whichever is greater, must be taken in residency.
