MATH 5023 - Number Systems

Description: Students will investigate pre-number concepts and arithmetical operations in the sets of whole numbers, integers, rationals, and reals.They will also explore traditional and alternative algorithms by representing integers in base 10 and other bases. Students will study prime numbers, divisibility, multiples, congruence classes and modular arithmetic. In this course designed for mathematics teachers, the instructor will discuss relevant pedagogy for guiding, evaluating, and improving students’ learning.
