School Counselor Certificate

Standard Certificate **

The Applicant shall:


1.


The applicant must meet the admission criteria of the School Counseling degree seeking applicant.

2.


The applicant shall hold a valid Oklahoma Standard or Provisional teaching certificate.

3.


The applicant shall have a master’s degree from an accredited college or university and shall have completed an approved program for the preparation of school counselors. All course work shall be at the graduate level.

4.


The approved program for the standard certificate requires completion of 39 semester hours.

*Students must receive an “A” or “B” in Practicum I in order to enroll in PSYC 5713 Group Processes or PSYC 5643, Developmental Guidance Practicum.

**A student MUST take the CPCE comprehensive examination prior to receiving his/her final grade in Developmental Guidance Practicum. A student must receive a “B” or better in Developmental Guidance Practicum and submit a 50 minute audio tape for faculty review and approval. Student must also have passed the CPCE exam or make an “A” on the final tape in PSYC 5643 to be recommended for certification as a School Counselor.

All students will be required to provide proof of liability insurance while enrolled in the program and maintain a professional portfolio as directed by the department.
