Sociology Major B.A.

The Bachelor of Arts in Sociology is designed to help students reach an understanding of Sociology and to connect this understanding with the actual social world. Credit may not be earned in both Sociology courses and Social Work or Anthropology courses with the same number or title. At least 18 hours of advanced (3000, 4000) courses are required on a Sociology major. Eighteen hours must be earned at NSU.

Policies of the College of Liberal Arts


GRADUATION REQUIREMENT: Majors in Sociology must have 2.0 GPA for all required (core) courses.
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY: English proficiency is a graduation requirement. Components I and II of English proficiency should be met with grades of “C” or better prior to the completion of 60 credit hours.
UPPER DIVISION CREDIT: Total hours must include at least 40 hours of credit in courses numbered 3000 and above.
LIBERAL ARTS & SCIENCES: At least 80 semester credit hours are required in Liberal Arts & Sciences. The general track in Sociology together with general education hours provides for 72 hours. The Gerontology track provides for 61 hours. The student is advised to take a minor or second major in Liberal Arts & Sciences fields in order to satisfy this requirement.
