Professional Education courses listed in a Block should be taken concurrently.

Block II


(5 hours; Concurrent enrollment in SCI 4513 required. This block should be taken during the fall semester before the Final Internship and graduation.)   Note:  Currently SCI 4513 is only offered in the fall semester.

Block III


(12 hours; all other coursework should be completed before enrolling in the Block III courses listed below.)

Requirements for admission to Teacher Education and Internships are listed by the College of Education. Science Education Candidates must pass the Oklahoma Subject Area Test in Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science or Physics before they can do their Final Internship.

Professional Portfolio

All students pursuing initial teacher certification in secondary science are required to develop a portfolio which documents their accomplishments, learning, and strengths related to the competencies, standards, and outcomes established by the Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, the Oklahoma State Department of Education, and the National Science Teacher Association Standards for Teacher Preparation.

GPA Requirements

Teacher candidates must have at least a “C” in English Composition I, English Composition II, all science courses and all education courses.  In addition, they must maintain an overall GPA of 2.5, a GPA of 2.5 for all science courses, and a GPA of 2.5 for all education courses.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY: English proficiency is a graduation requirement. Components I and II of English proficiency should be met with grades of C or better prior to the completion of 60 credit hours.
UPPER DIVISION CREDIT: Total hours must include at least 40 hours of credit in courses numbered 3000 and above.
LIBERAL ARTS & SCIENCES: At least 55 semester credit hours are required in the Liberal Arts and Sciences
