This certificate is embedded in the Healthcare Organizations Administration, B.B.A.

The Long Term Care Administration certificate at Northeastern State University prepares students for careers in long term care facilities which includes independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities.  Administrators serve as the lead administrative personnel for these facilities and must be aware of and sensitive to clinical issues.  However, administrators are primarily involved in the business and organizational activities of the facility.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify the physical, sociological, psychological, and financial issues the aging population faces.
  2. Demonstrate the business skills necessary to perform effectively in entry level healthcare management positions within long term care facilities.
  3. Identify budgetary principles as applicable to long-term care facilities.
  4. Explain the responsibilities of a long-term care administrator including scheduling, staffing, and recruitment.
  5. Identify various funding sources utilized by the aging population such as Medicare and Medicaid. 

Prerequisite Courses


Admission into the certificate program is open to any student currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at NSU. People who are only interested in earning the certificate, but are not currently enrolled at NSU, can apply through the NSU Admissions office to be admitted for the purpose of pursuing the certificate.

Courses in the certificate program may require prerequisites.  For students who do not have the required prerequisites, transcripts and work experience will be examined by the Department Chair and course instructors to determine whether prerequisites may be waived and/or prior learning credit be given in lieu of specific prerequisites.

The following prerequisite courses are completed as part of General Education degree requirements or as part of the B.B.A. core.

A minimum grade of C is required.
