A Bachelor of Science in Military Science is an interdisciplinary degree that integrates studies in leadership, strategy, military thoery and doctrine, and other disciplines, such as management and operations, communication and media studies, homeland security, military history, and others. Emphasis is placed on helping students develop the critical thinking, decision-making, and ethical foundations necessary for leadership, command, and service in and out of the military.
Students may propose a “Student Designed” set of courses to the director of MILS for the 12 hours of major electives. Students are encouraged to consider using courses that qualify for accelerated degree programs in this area.
Students are encouraged to consider minors in Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Finance, Management, Leadership Communication, Hitory, Organizational Leadership.
Student Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of major themes in military history, theory, and doctrine by applying historical context to evaluate past and present military strategies, operations, and leadership approaches.
2. Apply principles of military leadership, tactics, operations, and strategy to analyze and assess decision-making in diverse contexts, including contemporary and future warfare environments.
3. Conduct research using historical and social science methods to investigate military phenomena, synthesize evidence from primary and secondary sources, and construct well-reasoned interpretations.
4. Communicate effectively in written, oral, and digital formats by presenting clear, evidence-based arguments tailored to academic, military, and public audiences.
5. Integrate knowledge from operations, management, communication, or public relations into the study of military history and leadership, while evaluating the ethical and societal impacts of military decisions.
