Notes
Biology majors must complete the following course as a part of the general education requirements: MATH 1473 OR MATH 1513.
A Biology minor will consist of 18 hours of courses in Biology. Note that General Biological Science (BIOL 1113) and Selected Topics in Biological Science Education (BIOL 4480) do not count toward a minor.
Marine Sciences - NSU offers a unique opportunity to specialize in Marine Science in their B.s. Biology degree programs. Through an affiliation agreement with the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) our classrooms include the Gulf of Mexico, Mississippi barrier islands, bays, beaches, bayous, salt marshes and coastal river systems. Students may take a variety of courses offered each summer at the Ocean Springs, Mississippi campus and field station. These courses include: Marine Biology, Coastal Vegetation, Marine Ecology, Marine Invertebrate Zoology, coastal Ecology for Teachers, Marine Ichthyology, Marine Mammals, Coastal Marine Geology and Applications of Biotechnology in Marine Biology. All these may be substituted into NSU’s B.S. Biology degree plans. See Dr. Amy Smith, NSU’s GCRL Campus Coordinator, for more details on the program.
