Business Administration General Information


Admission to the BBA Program

For admission to the BBA Program, students must have completed (45) credit hours with a minimum GPA of 2.25. Included in these hours must be ENGL 1113, ENGL 1213, and MATH 1513 with a grade of “C” or better. Also included are ACCT 2103, ACCT 2203, ECON 2213 and ECON 2313 with an overall GPA of 2.25.  Satisfaction of the university’s computer proficiency is also required. Students failing to meet these admission requirements will be limited in the business classes they may take until all requirements are completed. Students in all CBT programs must read and sign the CBT Standards of Professional Behavior. The Standards of Professional Behavior may be found on the CBT web site.

Graduation with the BBA degree requires that all core and major classes must be completed with a “C” or better and that 21 (of 42) credits in the BBA core must be earned at NSU.

Dual Major (Sometimes called double degrees, double majors or second majors)

Any double major (one of which is in business) must meet all requirements of the business major, including the business core. A minimum of 30 unduplicated semester credit hours is required for each major.  See full requirements for Dual Major under Academic Information  .

A student may earn a minor by completing 18 hours in one of the following fields of study. NOTE: Some minor fields are structured. Refer to program section for specific requirements.

Technology Degrees

Students choosing the BS in Environmental, Health and Safety Management or the Bachelor of Technology programs should consult the requirements in the following program pages in the catalog. Advisors are assigned through the Department of Information Systems & Technology, Contact the departmental office for more information.

Students in all CBT programs must read and sign the CBT Standards of Professional Behavior. The Standards of Professional Behavior may be found on the CBT web site.

Minimum Grade Requirements (Business)

Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in the Business Core and required and/or elective major courses to graduate. Grades lower than a “C” in these areas on transfer credit will not be applied to the degree.

Experiential Credit Limitation (Business)

In order to assure sufficient theoretical course work, a maximum of six hours of internship or other experiential based courses will count towards requirements for a major in any field of business.

Transfer Credit Limitation

Transfer students must complete at least 18 hours or 50 percent of their courses in their major (whichever is greater) at NSU.

Advising

An academic advisor is available through the College of Business & Technology Deans Office to work with students pursuing BBA degrees who have yet to select a major. Once a student has declared a major, he/she will be assigned a faculty advisor in their intended field of study.

Policies of the College of Business and Technology


The following policies of the College of Business and Technology apply: Entrance Requirements, Minimum Grade Requirements, Experiential Credit Limitation, Transfer Credit Limitation, English Proficiency, Upper Division Credit, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Residency.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY: English proficiency is a graduation requirement. Components I and II of English proficiency should be met with grades of “C” or better prior to the completion of 60 credit hours.
UPPER DIVISION CREDIT: Total hours must include at least 40 hours of credit in courses numbered 3000 and above.
LIBERAL ARTS & SCIENCES: At least 40 semester credit hours are required in the Liberal Arts and Sciences for the BBA and BT degrees and 55 semester credit hours in the Liberal Arts and Sciences for BS degrees.  Liberal Arts and Science courses are designated with a “#” after the course title.
RESIDENCY: At least 18 hours or one-half of the major, whichever is greater, must be taken in residency.
