  • MKT 3563 - Entrepreneurial Marketing

    3 Hours. This course focuses on the marketing decisions of entrepreneurs. Study of the techniques used to profitably identify and fill customers’ needs when operating within a limited budget during the early stages of a start-up or in a small to medium sized firm. Course strives to develop skills in applying basic marketing principles and high impact sales and promotion techniques in integrated manner to produce a practical, cost-effective action plan for start-ups and smaller companies.   • MKT 3583 - New Product/Service Development

    3 Hours. The focus of the course is management of new product development processes, from product definition through ramp-up of product manufacturing. Using a project in which students will be asked to design and develop a product or service of their choosing, they will learn processes for collecting customer and user needs data, prioritizing that data, developing a product specification, sketching and building product prototypes, and interacting with the customer during product development.   • MKT 4123 - Electronic Media Strategy

    3 Hours. This course explores the field of electronic marketing (e-marketing) and the application of marketing strategies and tactics to electronic media.  Topics include an overview of electronic media and emerging technologies, the e-business marketspace, marketing mix strategies in an e-market, the role of internet marketing in the integrated marketing communications plan, website planning and development, e-marketing metrics, building customer databases through electronic technology, and ethics and regulation in the e-marketspace.     3 Hours. Planning, implementing, and controlling marketing systems for the flow of materials and final goods from points of origin to points of use to meet customer requirements at a profit. Involves coordinating the activities of suppliers, purchasing agents, manufacturers, transportation modes, marketers, channel, members, and customers in domestic and international markets. Students will work to become fully prepared for entry-level sales positions including developing effective sales proposals, demonstrating mastery of sales technology, developing customer relationships and effective verbal and non-verbal communications techniques through role playing, field work, and networking.   • MKT 4543 - Marketing Management

    3 Hours. A case-oriented course involving the development and application of marketing strategy. Ethics and global strategies are covered. Prerequisite: Senior standing and a minimum of 9 hours of marketing. Capstone course in the marketing program.
  
  • MKT 4663 - Retail Marketing Strategy

    3 Hours. Students explore current issues, analyze retailing case studies, and make presentations. Focus is placed on key concepts for success in the competitive international market place with special emphasis on service quality and leadership. Guest lecturers, tour(s) of major retailer(s) and market centers will facilitate an insider’s view of the challenge and opportunities in the dynamic world of retailing.   • MLS 4226 - Clinical Virology/Parasitology/Mycology

    6 Hours. Basic principles relevant to biochemistry of viral infection in hosts and ecology of virus.  Life cycles and pathogenesis parasites and fungi. Emphasis on diagnostic tools for identification of viral infections. Prerequisite: Admission into Medical Laboratory Science Degree Completion Program, BIOL 3224, and MLS 4124.
  
  • MLS 4336 - Advanced Clinical Hematology

    6 Hours. This course is a continuation of the basic hematology course.  Systematized study of disease, cell maturation and function, and methodology used in routine and special hematology studies, and in correlation of hematological findings with physiological conditions. Laboratory competencies completed at affiliated clinical site. Prerequisite: Basic Hematology (NAACLS approved MLT course) and completion of clinical core prerequisites for the Medical Laboratory Degree Completion program.
  
  • MLS 4425 - Advanced Clinical Chemistry

    5 Hours.

    This course is a continuation of the clinical chemistry I. The theory and laboratory methodology of analytical biochemistry, clinical microscopy, urinalysis, and routine and special procedures of medical significance.  Advanced theory and laboratory methodology of analytical biochemistry, instrumentation, lab mathematics, quality control, routine and special procedures and medical significance.  Laboratory competencies completed at affiliated clinical site.  Prerequisite: CHEM 2004 or CHEM 3123 and completion of clinical core prerequisites for the Medical Laboratory Degree Completion program.

  
  • MLS 4466 - Advanced Clinical Bacteriology

    6 Hours. The theory and laboratory study of pathogenic bacteria.  Includes isolation, identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and medical significance of bacteria.  Topics of quality control, computer applications, safety and governmental regulations will also be covered.    Laboratory competencies completed at affiliated clinical site. Prerequisite: Completion of clinical core prerequisites for the Medical Laboratory Degree Completion program.
  
  • MLS 4496 - Special Topics in Clinical Hematology

    6 Hours. Advanced discussion of theory and methodology for assessment of body fluids, special hematology studies and hemostasis.  Includes methods used in instrumentation for hematological studies, quality control and medical significance.  Laboratory competencies completed at affiliated clinical site. Prerequisite: Completion of clinical core prerequisites for the Medical Laboratory Degree Completion program.
  
  • MLS 4513 - Molecular Diagnosis

    3 Hours. Theory and methodology of medical genomic/proteomic assays and medical significance. Methods include PCR, flow cytometry, electrophoresis and blotting techniques. Laboratory experiences are presented as an on-campus workshop for students enrolled in MLS program. Prerequisite: Completion of clinical core prerequisites for the Medical Laboratory Degree Completion program.
  
  • MLS 4566 - Clinical Immunology and Immunohematology

    6 Hours. The theory of immunologic responses and procedures used in serological determinations; the study of immunohematology, fundamentals of antigen - antibody reactions, blood groups and types, compatibility testing, blood components and the lab methods used as they relate to the medical significance of immunohematology, immunology and infectious disease.  Laboratory competencies completed at affiliated clinical site.   • MLS 4613 - Communications in Medical Laboratory Sciences

    3 Hours. Lecture/discussion of topics of concern in medicine that deal with patient and health provider communication.  Students will present 3 separate 15-minute oral discussions regarding new techniques, new discoveries and patient communication in clinical laboratory sciences.  Lecture presented through electronic media for distance learning students enrolled in MLS program.  Student presentations are on site via teleconference or program director visit.   • MLS 4623 - Laboratory Statistics

    3 Hours. Focus of laboratory statistics to include mean, median and mode as well as standard deviation and coefficient of variation.  Principles of in run quality control as well as standardization of instrumentation.   • MLS 4812 - Research Methods in Medical Laboratory Science

    2 Hours. Theory of research methodologies including journal review and development of research proposals.  Introduction to most current acceptable writing styles for scientific papers.  Course culminates in a research proposal.   • MLS 4822 - Laboratory Management

    2 Hours. Principles and practices of the medical laboratory including basic management skills, health care delivery systems, ethics, professionalism, communication skills, human resources, and financial management, performance improvement, education methodology, quality assurance, science education methodology, computer applications, laboratory safety and special projects.  Prerequisite: Admission into Medical Laboratory Science Degree Completion Program and permission of the MLS program director.
  
  • MLS 4912 - Seminar in Medical Laboratory Sciences

    2 Hours. Review of all areas of medical laboratory science, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, bloodbank, immunology, coagulation and microbiology. Course culminates in mock board of certification in preparation for American Society of Clinical Pathologists Board of Certification Examination. Prerequisite: Completion of all clinical core prerequisites and clinical core courses.

    2 Hours. A beginning piano course designed to introduce the student with no previous musical training to basic musicianship principles such as reading, rhythm, and harmony.
