    1 Hours. This course prepares students to teach woodwind instruments through practical experience in performing on the major woodwind instruments (clarinet, flute, saxophone, oboe, bassoon) at the beginning level. 
  
  • MUS 3091 - Brass Class #

    1 Hours. This course prepares students to teach brass instruments through practical experience in performing on the major brass instruments ( trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba) at the beginning level. 
  
  • MUS 3111 - Keyboard Harmony

    1 Hours. A practical skills course designed for keyboard majors which includes the study of score reading, sight reading, harmonization, improvisation, and figured bass realization. Prerequisite: MUS 2553 and MUS 2563. May be repeated for credit. Offered as an applied music lesson.
  
  • MUS 3131 - Junior Recital for Music Performance and Jazz Studies

    1 Hours. Preparation for and successful performance of a recital of at least twenty-five minutes of music appropriate to the level of difficulty.  For students in the BA Music, Performance and Jazz Studies degrees.  Prerequisite: Junior standing and consent of instructor.

  • MUS 3553 - Music Theory III (Harmony) #

    3 Hours. The study of 18th and 19th century chromatic harmony. Includes exploration of modulation, borrowed chords, Neapolitan 6ths and other practices of the period. In-depth score analysis, student writing exercises and compositions utilized. Prerequisite: MUS 2563 Music Theory II (Harmony).  Taken concurrently with MUS 3041 Music Theory III (Aural).
  
  • MUS 3563 - Music Theory IV (Harmony) #

    3 Hours. The study of 20th century and contemporary compositional practices in harmony, rhythm, and sound. In-depth score analysis, student writing exercises and compositions utilized. Prerequisite: MUS 3553 Music Theory III (Harmony).  Taken concurrently with MUS 3061 Music Theory IV (Aural).

    2 Hours. The study of 18th century style counterpoint. An exploration of basic polyphonic structures, species counterpoint, and canon, leading to the fugue. Prerequisite: 12 hours of harmony or permission of instructor.

    2 Hours. Study of musical structure, correlating harmonic and formal elements. Examination and analysis of small and large forms from Baroque to present. Prerequisite: 12 hours of harmony or permission of department chairman.
  
  • MUS 3832 - Music for Elementary Teachers

    2 Hours. A skills course designed to prepare current and future elementary classroom teachers to be able to integrate music, dance, and theatre into their daily classroom instruction through musical activities and the development of a series of interdisciplinary lesson plans. Prerequisite: 2.5 GPA and concurrent enrollment in or successful completion of EDUC 3313.

  • MUS 4002 - Jazz Arranging and Composition #

    2 Hours. The study of composing and orchestrating music for jazz ensembles from three pieces to large groups. Includes thorough coverage of chord symbols, composing in the blues and jazz idioms, voicing for brass, woodwind and string instruments, and the compositional approach to jazz arranging.
  
  • MUS 4011 - Advanced Instrumental Conducting and Rehearsal Techniques #

    1 Hours. Encompasses improvement of conducting skills in music of various styles and periods.  Current materials and methodology for beginning band through secondary instrumental music and an overview of areas involved in operating a band program. Prerequisite: MUS 3011
  
  • MUS 4021 - Advanced Choral Conducting and Rehearsal Techniques #

The music capstone is a specialized final project which may include, but not be limited to, music business internships, lecture recitals or other appropriate performance/research related studies approved by the student’s major advisor and the music department chair.     3 Hours. Health Assessment focuses on holistic health assessment of patients using Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns as an organizing framework.     2 Hours. Cultural Competency in Nursing focuses on developing the nurse’s ability to provide culturally competent care to individuals, families and groups from diverse backgrounds.  Provides opportunity to increase cultural awareness and decrease health disparities.     3 Hours. Nursing Statistics introduces basic techniques of quantitative data analysis in nursing.  Descriptive and inferential statistics as well as nonparametric statistics, data reduction and management techniques, and the use of statistics in applied nursing research are included.   • NURS 4102 - Fundamentals of Nursing Research

    2 Hours. Fundamentals of Nursing Research introduces similarities and differences of quantitative and qualitative studies as well as statistical methods utilized in nursing research.  Legal and ethical issues, theoretical and conceptual frameworks, and literature reviews will be examined.  Emphasis is on the nurse as a consumer of nursing research. Prerequisite: Statistics and admission to nursing major, NURS 3003, or concurrent. (F, S, D)
  
  • NURS 4115 - Community Health Nursing

    5 Hours. Community Health Nursing integrates current knowledge, theory, and research relevant to nursing practice and public health practice to promote and preserve the health of populations. Provides an opportunity to partner with a community and other health professionals to manage and provide resources. Prerequisite: Admission to nursing major, NURS 3003 or concurrent.
