MATH 5323 - Algebra and Functions

3 Hours. A course designed for the elementary mathematics specialist and the elementary or middle school mathematics teacher. Topics include: mathematical properties and axioms, solving problems; investigating patterns, relationship, and functions; exploring linear relationships; representing and analyzing mathematical situations and structures using algebraic symbols; analyzing change; and using mathematical models to represent and understand quantitative relationships. The course will also emphasize pedagogical content knowledge so that the teacher can guide, evaluate, and improve students’ learning.
