PHYS 3164 - Physics for Life Sciences I Description: An introduction to the fundamental concepts, principles, approaches and techniques of physics, with the emphasis on their applications to the life sciences. Part I focuses on Newtonian mechanics, fluid mechanics, and wave in physics. Their applications in elasticity and viscoelasticity in biomaterials, structure and molecular dynamics in proteins, centrifugation, diffusion in cell, atomic force microscopy, cell membrane dynamics, blood and other complex fluid and so on are discussed. A small project will be assigned to students involving reading research papers, solving life science problems in real world, and writing a project report. Laboratory required.
