SOWK 4513 - Child Maltreatment Description: This course focuses on the theoretical, methodological, and controversial issues related to the study of child maltreatment. History, definitions, and laws associated with child maltreatment are presented. It examines the dynamics, indicators, and consequences of the various types of maltreatment. The course considers the key issues in responding to child maltreatment and how professionals can advance the field of maltreatment and what they can do to help prevent the abuse and neglect of children. Oklahoma’s Child Welfare Practice Model, laws, and definitions will be a micro focus of the course.
