This certificate is embedded in the Business Administration, B.B.A. program.

The Business Basics Certificate program is a 15-hour program designed to enhance your business skills.  This online undergraduate certificate is a great way to beef up your resume. The certificate is accredited, meaning the courses will also transfer should you decide to earn a bachelor’s degree! The courses included in this certificate will provide you with the basic skills to comprehend your business and improve your decision-making skills.

At least 25 percent of the coursework applied to this embedded certificate must be completed at NSU.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply generally accepted accounting principles to communicate financial information.
  2. Explain the concepts of income measurement and accrual accounting.
  3. Identify key terms and concepts related to financial statements and their usage in management control and problem solving.
  4. Understand the development and use of budgets.
  5. Understand the development and use of budgets.
  6. Identify and/or describe the fundamental functions (Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling) of a manager.
  7. Recognize basic terms and concepts relevant to managing human resources in attracting, developing, and maintaining a high-quality workforce.
  8. Identify managerial issues related to how to manage a diverse workforce and related to how managers must understand the different levels of social responsibility and/or the alternate views of ethical behavior.
  9. Explain how managers can effectively communicate messages/information to employees.
  10. Identify and describe The four P’s of marketing (product, price, promotion and place-distribution)
  11. Explain the consumer buying process: motivation, attitude, perception, levels of involvement and relationship to impulse, routinized response, specialty buys etc.

Certificate Requirements - 15 hrs


Admission into the certificate program is open to any student currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at NSU. People who are only interested in earning the certificate, but are not currently enrolled at NSU, can apply through the NSU Admissions office to be admitted for the purpose of pursuing the certificate.
