Human and Family Sciences B.S.-General and Early Care options (8400)

Human and Family Sciences uses an integrative approach to the relationships among individuals, families, and communities and the environments in which they function. The program offers degrees in Human and Family Sciences. The program offers interdisciplinary courses available to students majoring in other fields.
The program uses an interdisciplinary approach to areas in the fields of HUMAN SCIENCES, DIETETICS/NUTRITION, and EARLY CARE. Courses in fields such as business, science, sociology, psychology and education are selected to supplement the option listed above. Contact the program coordinator for the on line degree requirements. An internship which provides on-the-job training in the option is also offered.
This program leads to the Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Human and Family Sciences with an option in General Human and Family Sciences, Early Care or Dietetics.

General Option - 24 hours
For the Human and Family Science - General option, the student must complete the HFS core as listed above and select 24 hours (by advisement) from the following courses: Early Care Option - 24 hours
For the HFS- Early Care option, students must complete the HFS core as listed above and complete 6 hours of required courses and 18 hours from the list of courses provided. Total Minimum Hours Required in HFS Major/Minor 54 hours
Notes
In addition to the Human and Family Sciences courses, all HFS degrees require completion of the General Education course HFS 1653, Basic Nutrition.
The 54 hour major-minor program may include the Human and Family Sciences Internship Block for those who qualify – The 18 hours consists of HFS 4686 and 12 hours of Human and Family Sciences Electives. Internship requirements: cumulative GPA 2.25, 3.0 GPA in area of emphasis, have completed 9 hours in area of emphasis, have completed 84 semester hours (at least 24 from NSU), received approval from the HFS department; or 18 hours toward a minor (no internship) through consultation with the advisor. HFS majors must take HFS 1653, Basic Nutrition; BIOL 1123 and BIOL 1131 or BIOL 1114; CHEM 1123 and CHEM 1131, as part of the General Education program. Liberal Arts and Science Courses

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY: |
English proficiency is a graduation requirement. Components I and II of English proficiency should be met with grades of C or better prior to the completion of 60 credit hours. |
UPPER DIVISION CREDIT: |
Total hours must include at least 40 hours of credit in courses numbered 3000 and above. |
LIBERAL ARTS & SCIENCES: |
At least 55 semester credit hours are required in the Liberal Arts and Sciences |
