The Bachelor of Technology program is designed to serve students who have an applied science degree or documented training and/or verifiable skills in an exclusive vocational/technical area, full-time military experience, or business/industrial training and who desire a bachelor’s degree. A specific program of study for each student is contracted on the basis of his/her career goals and previous training. Each student must complete the following criteria:

  1. A Career Exploration phase with faculty assistance before admittance to the program.
  2. A minimum of 30 hours from NSU.
  3. A total of 60 hours credit from a four-year school. Forty of the 60 hours must be at the junior/senior (3000/4000) level.
  4. Completion of 40 hours of Liberal Arts courses.
  5. Completion of:
      The Technology Core 18 hours
      Advised Upper Level Professional/Technical Electives 12 - 18 hours
      Technical Electives (1000-4000) level 27 hours (minimum)
  6. An Internship is recommended for students entering the workplace, changing disciplines, or making significant changes In job description.
  7. The advisor will help the student prepare an individualized program of study, which becomes a learning contract when approved by the Chair of the Department of Information Systems & Technology. Students may be approved to take course work in any other department in order to meet specific career objectives. Emphasis areas have been developed for Service Occupations, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain /Logistics. Curricula have also been developed for specific area industries.

The minimum number of hours required for the Bachelor of Technology is 124 hours.

Policies of the College of Business and Technology


The following policies of the College of Business and Technology apply: Entrance Requirements, Minimum Grade Requirements, Experiential Credit Limitation, Transfer Credit Limitation, English Proficiency, Upper Division Credit, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Residency.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY: English proficiency is a graduation requirement. Components I and II of English proficiency should be met with grades of “C” or better prior to the completion of 60 credit hours.
UPPER DIVISION CREDIT: Total hours must include at least 40 hours of credit in courses numbered 3000 and above.
LIBERAL ARTS & SCIENCES: At least 40 semester credit hours are required in the Liberal Arts and Sciences for the BBA and BT degrees and 55 semester credit hours in the Liberal Arts and Sciences for BS degrees.  Liberal Arts and Science courses are designated with a “#” after the course title.
RESIDENCY: At least 18 hours or one-half of the major, whichever is greater, must be taken in residency.
